I Am Thankful…

Let me just start off by saying sorry for not updating in a while. I have been extremely busy with school and work, and have not had time to get on. But hopefully I’ll have more time soon!

Since Thanksgiving is this week, I thought I would do a little bit on what I am thankful for (if I were to list off everything, I am sure you would fall asleep! There’s just too much!), plus some outfit ideas for your celebration, of course!

I am so thankful to have my parents. They are always there for me when I need them. Not only are they fun to be around and understanding, but they will deal with me when I am having off days. I couldn’t be blessed with better parents.

I am also thankful for my extended family, especially my cousin who is like a sister to me. It is truly like we are the same person in two different bodies! Since I don’t have any siblings, I don’t miss out because I have a cousin who is like my older sister!

Thirdly, I am thankful for my friends. They cheer me up, make me laugh, and bring a smile to my face! I wouldn’t have them any other way!

My job. There are so many people out there without jobs and as a college student, I am thankful to have one, especially one that has taught me so much!

My home. I see so many homeless people out on the streets, struggling to get by. I am so thankful to have a roof over my head and food and a bed. So many people take these things for granted, and each day I am reminded how blessed I truly am.

My boys (dogs)…they are the loyalest men you will meet! They will poop all over the floor, eat your food, and sleep all day and they are still excited to see you after you get mad at them for their messes. They are great cuddlers and are goofy little guys. Love them.

What are you thankful for?

Now, here are 3 looks for the fall holiday that you can try out. Depending on what you are doing, make sure it is something you feel comfortable in!

Music Corner: Andrew Bird

A little while ago, I stumbled upon the music of Andrew Bird. His catchy beats and voice caught my attention. Andrew Bird is an American musician and songwriter. The 39 year-old musician can play the violin, guitar, and glockenspiel, as well as sing. Check out his song “Imitosis” in this live rendition. What a talented guy!

Fall Trend Alert: Trousers

A prominent trend for this fall season is the “tuxedo pant” or trouser trend. I have seen so many takes on this trend, ranging from casual, to dressy, to street chic. I love the fact that there is another type of pant coming in other than jeans. Here are some ideas for ways to dress your trousers!

Which look is your favorite? And will you be rocking the trouser pants this fall? Comment below.

Beauty and the Briefcase

I recently got a promotion at my job and now that I am one of the managers, I have to start dressing business casual (since it was a student job, we don’t have uniforms or a specific dress code). I was worried that I would no longer be able to bring my flair and style into the outfits, but then I realized…who says you can’t bring fashion into the workplace? :)

It’s okay to add a pop of color to an outfit, all outfits do not have to be bland. And be sure to accessorize!!

Here are some ideas if you are starting a new job this school year, and some ideas that are appropriate yet fashionable for the workplace:

Style Spotlight: Let Freedom Ring

This Wednesday is not only a time to remember and love our country, but to celebrate! If you’re heading to a barbeque, pool party, or bonfire, here are some ideas to add some patriotic flair to your outfit!

Summer Lovin’: Pool Party

First, let me start off by saying, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. Do not let anybody tell you anything different, no matter what size jeans you wear or if your features are not perfect. Haven’t you heard, imperfection is beauty! And before I even get into swimwear, let me just say that confidence is key! No matter what you wear, if you stand up straight and plaster a smile on your face, you will look (and feel) like a million bucks! Always go shopping for a swimsuit on a day you’re feeling great, because then you’ll have a good attitude! When you’re wearing your swimsuit, rock it or else insecurities will show. Let your confidence shine through and you’ll look a million times better!

Many girls end up getting the wrong type of swimsuit for their body shape, so here are some tips on finding one that’s best for your body style!

Ruler Body Shape:

  • Straight and narrow girls should find suits with ruffles, bows, or cutouts to add natural curves to their body.

For example, here are some styles that would work well on a “ruler” style body:

  • VITAMIN A V.I.P. Salt Creek Sweetheart Bikini Top $55 – tillys.com
  • VITAMIN A V.I.P. Rio Ruffle Hot Pant Bikini Bottoms $53 – tillys.com
  • GUESS Ruffle Monokini Swimsuit $89 – tillys.com
  • Boho Bandana Tankini $78 – luckybrand.com
  • Boho Bandana Reversible Tie Side Bottom $58 – luckybrand.com

Small Bust or Petite:

  • Work with prints, bandeau tops, and bold one-pieces to accentuate your curves. Be daring to be sure you will add extra visual volume where you want it!

Curvy Body Style:

  • Try a deep V-neck to flatter your upper body! Try some sweet prints and don’t be afraid to go retro.

Apple Body Shape:

  • Halters and higher waists highlight your figure and define your middle!

Pear Body Shape:

  • Draw the eye up, so choose a bold top and solid bottom!

So when you’re heading to the pool party, remember to smile and love yourself and your body! Wear a cute cover up and pair your suit with shades and a hat and you’re all set!

Music Corner: Florrie

Florence Arnold is an English singer-songwriter, drummer, and model. Known as Florrie, she has performed with artists such as Kylie Minogue, Girls Aloud, and the Pet Shop Boys. I recently stumbled upon her music and fell in love with her indie-style music. Check out more of her music, and check out her song, “Left Too Late”, right here!

What do you think of Florrie’s music? Leave a comment below!

Music Corner: Gemma Hayes

Gemma Hayes was born August 11, 1977 in Ireland. She is an Irish singer-songwriter as well as a member of “The Cake Sale”. I came across a song from “The Cake Sale” a few years back, and fell in love with her voice and her indie-folk rock style . She has a very soothing voice, with covers like “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak and duets with Magnet on the Bob Dylan song, “Lay Lady Lay”. Here is the song, “Out of Our Hands”.
